The Effects of Matcha Green Tea on Mood and Cognition

I know that I always feel great after drinking a fresh cup of organic matcha. A calm, energetic focus soon washes over me and I feel relaxed, happy and centered. I guess there's a reason why Zen Buddhists ritually consumed matcha for hundreds of years...

Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about other caffeinated beverages. For instance, drinking coffee almost always makes me feel anxious, irritable and overwhelmed.

Then there's the dreaded crash... a few hours later and I'm moody, depressed and in need of a nap.

Yeah, yeah, I know...

Clearly, I'm very sensitive to coffee (and energy drinks for that matter) but I know for a fact that I'm not alone! There are many others like me that are similarly affected by these high-octane beverages. Unfortunately, many times we often feel these drinks are necessary to get through our stressful, over-worked lives.

Matcha is the perfect alternative for those sick of the manic highs and lows of coffee/energy drink addiction. Expect to feel great and perform even better soon after drinking this healthy tea! Whether I'm at work, the gym or writing these articles; I feel like I can think clearly, concentrate and get things done!

So why is this?

Actually, many of the psychoactive effects associated with the consumption of matcha can be attributed to several phytochemicals found naturally in the tea: caffeine, l-theanine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Interestingly, there has been a lot of scientific research conducted on the beneficial effects of these compounds. Below is a brief summary of some of these findings...
